LA Galaxy star and world famous metrosexual, David Beckham is going to trouser some serious profits when he launches his own brand of mens underwear. What the collection will be called hasn’t been disclosed yet but he is working closely with former Spice Girls and showbiz manager Simon Fuller to create something with serious impact.
David Beckham was for many years the face of Italian mens design house Emporio Armani – specifically their underwear collection that saw a rise in profits, from £14.1million to £38.7million after he posed in their undies. The ad campaigns saw billboards placed in very prominent positions in major cities and television commercials, some featured him with wife and ex Spice Girl Victoria Beckham.
It was his face that may have been the catalyst that launched mens underwear into a new era of popularity and style in recent years as men could now see a straight, good-looking man enjoying designer underwear and showing them off.
Beckham states that has had the idea for offering a men’s bodywear range for sometime, especially when he personally saw the popularity and rise of era of mens fashion as underwear and how much his stripped down ad campaigns raked in for Armani.
“I can’t wait to show people the collection. Although I’m not sure my mum will be too happy seeing a billboard image of me in underwear again.” The 36 year old sportswear noted and is excited about what he can offer and went on to add, “We have spent time working on the fit, the fabric and the style to ensure the product looks and feels the very best and I am hugely proud of the end result.”
