Henrik Stenson – For Love of the Game

Henrik Stenson was in quite a predicament on Thursday when his tee shot on the third hole went into the mud.

Knowing he needed to wade in to save his shot, but also realising that if he did he would be playing the final 15 holes with wet and muddy clothes. So he did the only thing he could do, stripping off his clothes except his Bjorn Borg underwear and the glove on his left hand and he waded in.

Henrik explained his decision afterward:
“If you are saving a shot, that has to be worth taking your shirt and trousers,” Stenson said. “I’m sure I’ll hear a few comments and once the pictures get out, I’ll hear a few more, no doubt. I’ll probably take that to my grave with me. I don’t think I scared too many spectators off the course, hopefully.”
Stenson added that he did it “For the love of the game, and for the fans.”

He bogeyed the par-4 hole and got some grief from the fans for the rest of the day, but he finished the round with a 69, four shots off the lead.
