About Jockey
One of the oldest underwear a companies in the world, Jockey offers a great range of high quality underwear for reasonable prices. They have been a staple in the industry for 130 years; founded by Samuel T. Cooper, a retired minister, in 1876. His commitment to customers and quality laid the foundation and frameworke for the company and they stand by this today. Jockey aims for diversity in the workplace along with camaraderie and enthusiasm among employees; they have built their reputation on excellence. Their main location is in the Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA, Jockey employs over 5,000 people worldwide – with a plant in Australia that is controlled by Pacific Brands.
In 1900 Jockey International was known as “Cooper’s Underwear Company”, with their plant newly relocated to Kenosha, Wisconsin, from Ludington, Michigan. They launched their first full fledge advertising campaign in 1911, taking an ad out in the Saturday Evening Post for men’s underwear. In 1929 they launched their design on the ‘Jockey Singleton’, a one piece garment, shortly thereafter in 1934 they released their underwear brief. In four more short years they attend their first underwear convention, in 1938, and by 1948 have grown large enough to begin a radio advertising campaign, followed by television advertising in 1955.
In 1971 Harry Wolf purchased the company, and with it’s continued growth and success with the “Jockey” label, renamed the business to Jockey International in 1972, and has guided it’s success since.
